Richest members of Congress: Estimated net worths revealed

by

(NewsNation) — United States elected officials represent Americans across all socioeconomic classes, despite some Congress members earning nearly triple the average American’s income.

Members of the United States House of Representatives and Senate are held to the Ethics in Government Act, which requires some federally elected officials to file a disclosure statement annually.

That statement details their investments, assets and business interests — and can give valuable insight into their net worth. So, who are the richest members of the U.S. Congress?

Richest members of Congress

According to a government pay record, representatives and senators bank $174,000 per annum as of 2024. That’s almost three-fold of the average United States income of $59,384 in 2023, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

But salary isn’t all that matters. Plenty of well-off lawmakers owe their fortune to investments, stock trading and fortunes made long before they took office.
