Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) said she does not anticipate a scenario in which Senate Republicans refuse to certify the election results but stressed she thinks former President Trump will win on Tuesday.
“Well, I think we want fair and safe elections. I think we see early reports that the safety and security of our ballots across the, across the country, now appear to be safe, and I think that is a great reassurance to all of us who are voting for President Trump,” Capito said in an interview on NewsNation’s “The Hill Sunday” with Chris Stirewalt when asked whether Senate Republicans were prepared to certify Vice President Harris as the next president if she is whom voters select on Election Day.
“Obviously, in a close election, every vote counts,” she continued. “I don’t anticipate a scenario where we’re not ready to certify whoever wins, and but I believe that will be a reelection of President Trump.”

Capito, however, avoided disagreeing with Trump when asked about his recent claims on social media that Pennsylvania “is cheating and getting caught” ahead of the election. Pennsylvania is one of the closest battlegrounds for the major party candidates ahead of this election.
“Well, I think, I think Pennsylvania definitely needs to get their act together because we know in 2020 there were more than a few very suspicious ballots cast, and investigations showed that those who were in charge fell way short of assuring that our ballots were safe, counted properly, and attributed to the correct candidate,” Capito said, echoing unsubstantiated claims the former president has made.
“So I understand why President Trump is very suspicious of the state of Pennsylvania,” she continued.
Capito said Pennsylvania has a lot of early votes and is being watched closely.

“I think what he’s doing is very smart, and that he’s keeping those in Pennsylvania feet to the fire. They know everyone’s watching,” Capito said of the former president.
“Pennsylvania should definitely have this together. They’ve had, they’ve been challenged over the last four years as to the authenticity of the votes cast in 2020. I hope that they hear this, but they do know that those of us who experienced that in 2020 are very suspicious,” she said.
