Trump names inaugural committee co-chair, rules out Haley and Pompeo

Former Georgia Sen. Kelly Loeffler will co-chair President-elect Trump’s inaugural committee alongside Steve Witkoff, Trump’s campaign announced Saturday.

The Republican leader said the committee will “honor” his victory in the 2024 election.

“The Trump Vance Inaugural Committee will honor this magnificent victory in a celebration of the American People and our nation,” Trump said in a statement.

“This will be the kick-off to my administration, which will deliver on bold promises to Make America Great Again,” he added. “Together, we will celebrate this moment, steeped on history and tradition, and then get to work to achieve the most incredible future for our people, restoring strength, success, and common sense to the Oval Office.”

Trump resistance rises in states led by Democratic governors

Loeffler was appointed to the Senate in 2019 by Gov. Brian Kemp (R) due to a resignation from former Sen. Johnny Isakson (R).

While in office, she was a staunch supporter of Trump and supported a lawsuit seeking to overturn the 2020 election results but spoke out against the measure after the January 6, 2021, Capitol insurrection.

The selections come after Trump tapped longtime senior advisor Susie Wilkes to serve as chief of staff. She will be the first woman in history hold the position.

On Truth Social, the incoming president also mentioned two people who won’t be joining his administration: former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley and former Secretary of State and CIA Director Mike Pompeo.

“I will not be inviting former Ambassador Nikki Haley, or former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, to join the Trump Administration, which is currently in formation,” the president-elect said in the Saturday post.

“I very much enjoyed and appreciated working with them previously, and would like to thank them for their service to our Country,” he continued. “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

While campaigning, Trump’s opponents alleged he did not like to be “challenged by women” and Trump received flack for telling people he’d protect the demographic whether they “like it or not.”
