(NewsNation) — A new report reveals that one in six Americans say they’ve already been victimized by porch pirates this year —and it’s not even reached the big holiday shopping season yet.
CNET found in a new survey that although most U.S. adults (66%) say they haven’t had a package stolen, 17% of Americans have in the past year— and 71% of people now have a plan to prevent that.
Dashia Milden, a money editor for CNET, said on “Morning in America” for those who do get hit by thieves, it’s important to file a police report.
UFO House Hearing: What witnesses plan to say
“A lot of the times, as much as we think doorbell cameras and even security cameras are a really great solve for porch pirates and even package theft, the more important piece here is a police report notifying your neighbors,” Milden said.
In addition, Milden said, people should come up with a plan to have their package delivered so it’s not left unattended.
“What that means is, ‘Hey, I can ask a neighbor to see if they can pick up my package,’ or you can make a plan in advance if you know you’re not going to be home by just simply asking your carrier to hold it at the location,” Milden told NewsNation.
