(KRON) — Production line workers at the Tesla Cybertruck factory in Austin were told to take the next three days, according to a report in Business Insider.
The report, which was published Monday, cited an internal memo that reportedly told workers, “On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday this week (Dec. 3-5), you do not need to report to work.”
The workers were also reportedly told they’d receive eight hours of pay for the days they were scheduled to work. The memo, according to BI, instructed workers to return to work as normal on Friday, Dec. 6.

The report comes on the heels of a fiery Cybertruck crash in Piedmont last week that left three recent high school graduates dead and a fourth badly injured. In the wake of that crash, Bay Area fire officials have warned of the dangers of electric vehicle batteries, which can cause fires that are difficult to put out once they ignite.
EV news website Electrek called the timing of the work stoppage at the Cybertruck factory “suspect,” going on to say that “demand seems much lower than the sky-high expectations for the vehicle.”

Tesla maintains its engineering headquarters in Palo Alto and has its main U.S. factory in Fremont.
