What we’re watching: Trump attends Carter’s funeral

🗓️ What we’re watching

As congressional Republicans look to President-elect Donald Trump to decide how to enact his legislative agenda, he’s instead punting the decision back to them. Trump told reporters after meeting with Senate Republicans that it “doesn’t matter to me” which strategy is used to pass a sweeping tax, energy and border package.
As flames continue to engulf parts of Los Angeles, killing at least five and destroying thousands of buildings, Trump is attacking the state’s Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom, a longtime political rival. “One of the best and most beautiful parts of the United States of America is burning down to the ground,” Trump said late Wednesday on Truth Social. “It’s ashes, and Gavin Newscum should resign. This is all his fault!!!”

👀 What’s Trump up to?

Trump will attend Jimmy Carter’s funeral today, along with the other 4 living presidents.

🚨What’s up with the nominees?

Attorney General pick Pam Bondi will meet with the Senate Judiciary Committee on Jan. 15 and 16.
Senate Energy and Natural Resources ranking member Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) wants the committee to wait to schedule a confirmation hearing for Chris Wright, Trump’s pick for Energy secretary, until it receives all relevant paperwork.
Democratic doctors in Congress said Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Trump’s choice to lead HHS, would pose a danger to public health if confirmed. And the Republican chair of the Senate HELP Committee offered a tepid response to their meeting Wednesday.
Defense secretary pick Pete Hegseth met Wednesday afternoon with Senate Armed Services Committee ranking member Jack Reed (D-R.I.).
