(NewsNation) — As many become more health conscious, alcohol sales are falling.
According to Wine Spirits Whole America’s SipSource, wine and spirits sales decreased compared to their 2023 total.
Data from wholesalers across 450,000 retailers showed an 8% decrease in wine sales and a 3.9% decrease in spirits sales.
The data was analyzed from August 2023 through August 2024.
What is the ‘healthiest’ alcohol?
Despite the downward trends, some alcohol saw an increase over the period. Specifically, prosecco sales increased by more than 2%, and domestic wines greater than $50 grew by 1%.
The biggest decline in sales occurred in $100+ spirits bought in bars and restaurants; they dropped by 12.5%.
