50+ terrorist incidents occurred in US since 2021: Report

by

(NewsNation) — A report released Wednesday by the House Homeland Security Committee found that more than 50 attacks tied to terrorist organizations have been carried out in the United States since 2021, including the New Year’s Day attack in New Orleans that killed 14 people and injured dozens more.

The Terror Threat Snapshot focuses on the threat of Jihadist organizations who are behind the attacks, including the most recent incident involving a military veteran who pledged support for ISIS. The report said the nation’s security “is in a state of disrepair” and that there is an immense amount of work that needs to be done to bolster homeland security in the U.S. to prevent future attacks from happening.

The incidents detailed in the report included reports of several attempts to provide support to ISIS, Hezbollah and al-Qaeda as well as other reports of U.S. residents receiving military-style training from terrorist groups.

In the case of the New Orleans attack, the driver of the truck that rammed down Bourbon Street, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, had posted videos to social media that indicated his loyalty to ISIS. The report also detailed three others who were identified in the summer of 2024 who were connected to terrorist organizations that were plotting to carry out attacks around the United States.

The committee’s report found that data shows that more than 400 migrants were smuggled across the U.S.-Mexico border by an ISIS-affiliated human smuggling organization. However, as of Wednesday, at least 50 of those who were smuggled into the country by the group remain unaccounted for.
