Fired inspector general: Trump didn’t follow law

by

(NewsNation) — One of several federal inspectors general fired by the Trump administration last week says the president did not follow proper procedure before terminating the government watchdogs.

Mark Greenblatt concedes the president may remove IGs, but said by law, he must give Congress 30 days’ notice and provide reasons.

Here are all executive orders Trump signed on Day 1

“The larger principle here, beyond the notice provision, is the potential for politicization of the inspector general positions,” Greenblatt said Monday on “Dan Abrams Live.”

“We need to preserve that apolitical oasis that the inspectors general represent,” he added.

Greenblatt was an inspector general for the Department of the Interior. He told The Hill he was notified by email of his firing Friday night.
