FBI director testifying about Trump rally shooting investigation

(NewsNation) — FBI Director Christopher Wray will testify to Congress on Wednesday about the agency’s investigation into the assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump.

The law enforcement response to the July 13 shooting at a Trump campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where one victim died and the former president suffered a graze to his ear has been heavily criticized.

It led to calls for Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle to resign — which she did Tuesday. Cheatle had also previously spoken at a congressional hearing where she said the Secret Service “failed” on the day of the shooting.

While Wednesday’s House Judiciary Committee hearing had been scheduled before the Trump rally shooting as part of the committee’s oversight of the FBI, questions about the shooting are expected to dominate the session.
