Trump assassination suspect could face more charges: Prosecutor

by

(NewsNation) — The man accused of trying to kill former President Donald Trump while at a golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida, is currently facing two firearm charges, but according to a local state attorney, he could be hit with more.

Suspect Ryan Wesley Routh, in court Monday, was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number.

Dave Aronberg, state attorney for Palm Beach County, Florida, told NewsNation that these gun charges were already filed because they are the easiest to prove.

“You don’t have to prove any intent. You just have to show that he’s an ex-felon in possession of a firearm,” Aronberg said. “As far as the other charge, he obliterated the serial number on the weapon, allegedly. So these are pretty low-hanging fruit.”

Added Aronberg: “I do predict more charges to follow.”

Next up for Routh is a pretrial hearing. Aronberg said Routh will likely be kept in detention as he “poses a danger to the public.”
