AI-powered transcription leaks workplace secrets

(NewsNation) — Offices that utilize artificial intelligence may be running the risk of leaking confidential details about the company or workplace gossip.

Venture capitalist Alex Bilzerian shared on X that Otter AI, a platform used to transcribe a Zoom meeting, shared confidential information with him after the meeting had ended, The Washington Post first reported.

“A VC firm I had a Zoom meeting with used Otter AI to record the call, and after the meeting, it automatically emailed me the transcript, including hours of their private conversations afterward, where they discussed intimate, confidential details about their business,” Bilzerian said.

Otter AI responded to Bilzerian’s X post to reiterate the company’s commitment to user privacy.

“We at @otter_ai take user privacy seriously,” the post said. “Users have full control over conversation sharing permissions and can change, update, or stop the sharing permissions of a conversation anytime.”

For this specific instance, Otter says users have the option not to share transcripts automatically with anyone or to auto-share conversations.
