Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard announces reelection bid

DOLTON, Ill. — Embattled Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard announced this week that she is running for reelection.

Henyard, who has been the focus of a federal investigation, made the announcement in a social media post on Tuesday, adding that she has a new slate of village board members that she is endorsing.

In the social media post, Henyard said an official announcement event is scheduled to take place in October.

“It’s time to be the change that is needed for the South Land,” Henyard said.

The suburban mayor has been the subject of scrutiny in recent years amid allegations of financial mismanagement. She and her allies were also the focus of an FBI investigation.

Henyard, her political committee, her cancer charity, her boyfriend, two of her relatives, four trustees who are allies, her deputy police chief and even her defunct burger business were all named in the FBI subpoenas.

Dolton Senior Trustee Jason House, the current Mayor pro tem who has been leading a fight to unseat Henyard, launched his mayoral campaign in July.

House is a lifelong resident of the village and has spent eight years serving on the board.

If chosen as the next mayor, House said he plans to prioritize ethics reform, restore checks and balances in the village, and build trust in the community.

Henyard launched her first mayoral bid in October 2020 after serving as a village trustee since 2013.

The self-proclaimed “super mayor,” who assumed office in 2021 after defeating incumbent mayor Riley Rogers, is the youngest mayor in the village’s history as well as the first woman to hold the position.

Henyard also serves as the Thornton Township Supervisor, a position she has held since March 2022.
