(NewsNation) — North Dakota voters will head to the polls Tuesday to cast their ballots in some pivotal races in the 2024 general election.
In addition to voting in the race for the White House between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, North Dakota residents will also vote for a new governor as well as a U.S. Senate seat and will consider a ballot measure that deals with voter power in upcoming elections.

Governor race in North Dakota
Republican Gov. Doug Burgum announced in January that he would not seek a third term.
Democratic state Sen. Merrill Piepkorn will face Republican U.S. Rep. Kelly Armstrong along with independent Michael Coachman. Before being elected to the state Senate, Piepkorn worked for 16 years as a Prairie Public Radio personality. Armstrong, meanwhile, has filled the state’s lone U.S. House seat.
US Senate race in North Dakota
Republican Sen. Kevin Cramer is seeking reelection against Democrat Katrina Christiansen, an assistant professor of engineering at the University of Jamestown.
Cramer unseated Democrat former Sen. Heidi Heitkamp in 2018. Christianson previously ran for the U.S. Senate in 2022.
US House race in North Dakota
With Armstrong seeking to become governor, Republican Julie Fedorchak and Democrat Trygve Hammer are battling for the U.S. House seat. Fedorchak is a longtime member of the North Dakota Public Service Commission while Hammer is a former Marine and combat pilot who was working as a train conductor before seeking public office.
North Dakota statewide ballot measure
Votes will decide on a state constitutional amendment that would require ballot initiatives to receive approval in both the primary and general elections.
On Tuesday, 468 U.S. congressional seats (33 Senate seats and all 435 House seats) are up for election.
Polls close at 7 p.m. local time in North Dakota, which holds three electoral votes.
North Dakota has reliably voted for the Republican in presidential races for decades. Trump defeated President Joe Biden in the state by 33 percentage points in 2020.
