Background check delays Rollins confirmation hearing

by

Brooke Rollins, Donald Trump’s Agriculture secretary pick, is among a handful of nominees whose confirmation hearings are slipping past their targeted dates due to delays with FBI background checks and ethics paperwork, according to two people with direct knowledge of the matter.

Rollins’ hearing — initially targeted for Jan. 15 — has yet to be scheduled as the Senate Agriculture Committee waits on the Trump administration to provide her FBI check and ethics disclosures, according to the two people who were granted anonymity to discuss the matter. POLITICO first reported the paperwork delays.

Unlike some other committees working through similar Trump nominee delays, senators expect Chair John Boozman (R-Ark.) to provide the full seven days notice provided for in panel rules before holding Rollins’ hearing.

Barring further complications with her paperwork, Rollins is poised to easily gain Senate confirmation with significant Democratic support.
