60 Minutes on Wednesday published a full transcript of an interview it aired with former Vice President Kamala Harris last fall as it faces a federal investigation and lawsuit stemming from how the conversation was edited.
“We are posting the same transcripts and videos of our interview with Vice President Kamala Harris that we provided to the FCC,” the news program wrote on its website. “They show – consistent with 60 Minutes’ repeated assurances to the public – that the 60 Minutes broadcast was not doctored or deceitful.”
Democrats protest Trump administration’s actions
The interview in question, which ran just weeks before Harris lost to President Trump last November, had sparked sharp criticisms from Trump and his allies who accused the network of selectively editing the Oct. 7 interview to cast Harris in a favorable light.
Critics took particular issue with an answer Harris gave to a question about the war in Gaza that was not included in the full broadcast and instead published by the outlet online.
“In reporting the news, journalists regularly edit interviews – for time, space or clarity,” the program said on Wednesday. “In making these edits, 60 Minutes is always guided by the truth and what we believe will be most informative to the viewing public – all while working within the constraints of broadcast television.”
The publishing of the full transcript comes as CBS News faces an FCC inquiry over the interview.
DOGE actions ‘long overdue, much welcomed’: House speaker
FCC Chairman Brendan Carr on Wednesday confirmed the department had received a transcript of the Harris interview and said “CBS did not ask for confidential or non-public treatment of these materials.”
CBS News is separately facing a $10 billion lawsuit over the interview brought by Trump accusing it of “partisan and unlawful acts of election and voter interference through malicious, deceptive, and substantial news distortion.”
Paramount Global, which owns CBS and is currently seeking a merger with Hollywood giant Skydance, has reportedly held settlement talks over the suit with Trump’s legal team.
